This past December, in collaboration with our superintendent, Dr. Tolbert, and the middle school teachers, our 8th grade teacher, Mrs. Atkins, nominateed 8th grade student, Tamayja Brown for the Racial Harmony Award. We were notified in January that Tamayja had been selected for this honor! A beautiful ceremony, The Gathering, was held Sunday, February 22, 2026, and Tamayja was presented with her award. Tamayja was accompained and celebrated by her mom, Dr. Tolbert, and Mrs. Atkins. Please take a moment to help us congratulate this young woman and her achievement. Tamayja was one of 56 area students to receive this award. Way to go Tamayja!

You are invited to attend our Black History Month Gallery Walk on Tuesday, February 24th, any time between 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM in the school cafeteria. This event is open to parents and the community. Students have been preparing and studying black history during the month of February and are ready to showcase their work. At last week’s October Board meeting, the Board of Education approved a more stringent Student Attendance Policy, which goes into effect immediately. Parents will be invited to an upcoming attendance meeting with Mr. Taylor (Venice Truancy Officer), ROE Truancy Officer Tim Rhymer, and myself in the coming weeks.
